A great opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic & trustworthy, live in Equine Welfare Assistant & Trainer. As part of the small, dedicated team, you will be responsible for all aspects of our equines care; from meeting their daily health and welfare needs, to grooming, handling and starting under saddle. This will include evening checks, and provide overnight cover for sick animals, orphan foals and emergency rescues.

The position is a core 35 hours a week on a rota over 5 days a week to include weekends. This live-in position requires you to live in our shared onsite farmhouse, you will be responsible for late night and early morning checks as required.

As part of this rewarding, varied and interesting role you will also be required to liaise with and co-ordinate yard volunteers, including work experience pupils. You will be responsible for keeping the farm clean and tidy, assist with fundraising events and promote a friendly and professional image of the Charity.

It is essential that the applicant possesses a full manual UK driving licence. A level 2 Equine related qualification would be preferred but we would be willing to take on an apprentice with the right attitude and enthusiasm. The position requires the ability to handle and work with a wide variety of equines, including youngsters, stallions and those that come in as feral.

The applicant must be a well organised individual, possessing outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. As this is a busy working environment, often open to the public, it is essential that the applicant can stay calm in an emergency and understands the importance of effective communication, observation, and unified teamwork. You will need to regularly liaise with line management and be able to follow instruction as well as use your own initiative.

The following are desirable but not essential to this job role; to possess a current transport certificate, a current first aid certificate, a transferable DBS, knowledge of equine welfare legislation and experience within the welfare sector.
