Volunteer Chair of Trustees vacancy
We are looking for an experienced person to lead our Trustees and staff in an exciting new phase of development. We want someone with the vision and energy to help us maximise use of our assets and create a sustainable future for Lluest Horse and Pony Trust
The Volunteer Chair will be responsible for working with Trustees and staff to realise the future development of the charity and the potential to move towards a more sustainable model of delivery.
You will be expected to attend and chair 6 Trustee meetings (evenings) a year in Carmarthenshire or remotely dependent on the Covid-19 guidelines. All other work can be undertaken at home.
As Chair you will also regularly liaise with staff and specifically Lluest’s Director and communicate any issues back to Trustees as appropriate. This may include a wide range of issues including equine welfare, finance, funding applications/fundraising, site maintenance and HR.
Our Chair also ensures that we are compliant in all areas of governance so keeping a check on all relevant paperwork is another aspect of the role supported by the Secretary. The role is ideally suited to working from home but the Chairperson has always been welcome to spend time in the Lluest office (as Covid situation allows) and on site and staff really value their presence when this happens.

Our current Acting Chair will shortly be stepping down and we are looking for a person to lead the Trustees and staff into a new phase of the charity’s development.
To realise this development we recognise that we are not maximising full use of our assets, most notably our 40 acre farm with traditional outbuildings and rare ancient woodland in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
We believe these have immense development potential to provide us with additional income streams focusing on projects linked to wellbeing, education and the environment. The Chair role will present you with an opportunity to get involved with every aspect of the organisation. You will be part of a team moving Lluest towards becoming a centre of excellence for equine rescue and a space where people can learn and gain a greater sense of self-worth through contact with horses and ponies in a biodiverse environment
If you believe you could commit to making a difference and you are someone who meets any of the following criteria, we’d love to hear from you:-
- You already have some experience in a Chairperson role
- You are used to working at a strategic level and you have several years of experience in project/business development. This may have been developed through public, third or private sectors
- You are fully supportive of Lluest’s core aims and objectives but you do not need to be an equine specialist
- You’re looking for your next challenge, you have the skills and you are able to offer Lluest a clear time commitment.
