On the 1st July 2024 following a call to help a young foal found and rescued from a Reen in Peterstone Newport/Cardiff by a group of caring locals and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. This brave and lame little foal was in desperate need of immediate care, and thanks to quick action, we were able to obtain a Section 18 order under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to provide him with the treatment he urgently needed.

He was given vital colostrum, in case he was still young enough to absorb it. Our dedicated welfare team has been working around the clock to monitor his health and give him, hourly feeds. We conducted an IGg test to check his antibody status and, while it’s difficult to determine his exact age, we believe he is less than a week old, but older than 24 hours.

Unfortunately, the test results were not what we had hoped for, with little to no antibodies needed to fight off any infection caused by his exposure to bacteria while submerged in the Reen. Despite this, he is a strong, bright foal and our team remains committed to his recovery. He is currently being fed mare’s replacement milk and is under constant hourly monitoring to ensure he gets the best possible care.
This little foal has shown incredible strength and bravery. We are grateful to everyone involved in his rescue and to our supporters who continue to make such life-saving efforts possible. Please share and donate for his care if you are able to. Stay tuned for future updates on his progress.
