Lluest Horse and Pony Trust is first and foremost an equine rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming charity.  We take in horses, ponies and donkeys who are victims of neglect, abuse and abandonment ranging from foals to veterans.  The horses and ponies we rescue often come in with a range of behavioural issues,  some  are  unhandled and more often than not new arrivals have health problems.

Our retraining and rehabilitation programmes help and encourage horses and ponies recover from their experiences gently and quietly by using a wide range of training and handling methods tailored to the needs of each individual.

For owners, enthusiasts , professionals and students we also offer:

  • Work experience placements.
  • Volunteer days - working with the horses and ponies or on the farm
  • Educational workshops on equine behaviour,  training and rehabilitation (from beginner to advanced) Our workshops look at different methods, including the science of behaviour and are a mixture of theory and practical application, with the emphasis on positive reinforcement.
The horses and ponies we are able to rehabilitate are then avilable to go on our loan scheme. We currently have around 90 horses and ponies out in loving homes living their lives to the full. Lady in her loan home

Those we cannot rehome due to medical or behavioural problems  stay with us for life.  Some of these rescue horses and ponies become part of our adoption scheme and some very special individuals join our Equine Assisted Therapy programmes.

This is Star as she was, and as she is today.  Star is 21 and sadly has degenarative joints. We manage this for her with daily pain relief. Star is one of the kindest horses anyone can meet and is now one of our fantastic therapy horses. Star is the perfect example of everything rescue horses can offer when given  a second chance. For as long as Star is well and happy she will stay in the programme continuing to help and touch the lives of the people who spend time with her.

Lluest Horse and Pony Trust Equine Assisted Therapy programmes are designed to help groups and individuals emotionally and physically  by interacting with and helping us look after the horses and ponies. Our programmes help people  find a sense of self worth, build confidence, pride and achievement.

For other groups and individuals who may not have the desire or confidence to have direct contact  with the horses and ponies but who benefit from being at our beautiful 40 acre farm on the edge of the Brecon Beacons,   we offer - and are continuing to  develop projects and programmes that involve helping us look after our  woodland, wildlife, plants, land and hedging. One of our latest projects is to raise funds to create an environmentally, eco friendly,  community allotment area. This includes setting up a worm farm so  we can maximise the potential of  the tons of  manure our wonderful equine residents so  generously supply us with. The horses and ponies of course will  benefit because we can grow our own carrots!
