Lluest Horse & Pony Trust Blog

World Horse Welfare today launches the Great British Horse Survey 2010.  The charity is asking everyone with an interest in horses to take part, making it the biggest survey of its kind ever undertaken.

With questions on a range of issues, including practical problems facing those looking after horses and general perceptions of welfare standards, the aim is to create the most complete picture of the equine community ever held in Britain.

Go online at www.horsesurvey.co.uk to fill out the survey before 30th November 2010 and be entered into a draw to win a place on the 2011 Canadian Wilderness Challenge Ride.

Open Day Postponed

Unfortunately we have had to make the very hard decision to postpone our next open on the September 18th

The Raffle will still be drawn on this date and winners will be contacted.

Due to the economic climate we have had a number of loan ponies  returned to us. We are  also currently  inundated with calls for help from distressed owners who can no longer afford their animals and sadly we are receiving a never ending stream of calls about horses and ponies in trouble -  and we do all we can to help. Because of the unprecedented work load we are encountering during this very difficult and challenging time we believe our attention must be focused on the animals. Open days require a lot of work and we believe our first priority must be to the horses in ponies in our care and those reported to us who need help.

Open days usually help us raise about £2000.00 to £3000.00 - funds we desperately need to continue our work especially as we head into winter and escalating costs.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you can do any fund raising on our behalf we would be so grateful! Lluest has always had a very special relationship with its loyal supporters and we need you more than ever! Coffee mornings, sponsored events, perhaps you can ask your local schools or clubs to be  involved? We also have envelopes we can give to you  to send off your used ink cartridges and old mobile phones to a company who will send us a donation in return. Another way you can help is if you have any bits of  broken gold jewellery you no longer want. If you would like to send it to us we can also turn it into money for the horses and ponies. Every penny you raise WILL make a difference!

Barbara Bell one of our wonderful volunteers has very kindly offered to be our fund raising coordinator. Barbara will be your point of contact and we will also do all we can to help support your event.

Because of Barbara’s help we are now able to plan and  run smaller events ranging from talks, demonstrations and fun get-togethers. Watch this space! If you have an idea for an event please contact Barbara on 01639 631343

If you would like to be kept informed of events please join us on Face Book http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=53633783162&ref=ts  to be kept regularly up dated or send us your email address to go on our mailing list to receive mail shots.

Visitors are welcome at the trust but because we are so busy please make an appointment so a member of staff can be available to show you round.

Your support and help is truly appreciated.

Thank you from everyone at Lluest

Networking is such a positive way of supporting all things that you believe in and wish to see prosper and grow. The Self Realization Meditation Healing Centre, based in Talley (registered charity no 800412), are delighted to be invited along to the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust Open Day where professionally trained animal healers will be administering healing to the animals on site, giving a talk and available to answer any questions you may have about healing. If you wish to make a donation towards the healing please know that all monies will go to The Lluest Trust. For those of you who are unfamiliar with healing we’ve given a brief description below.
Animal Healing is about working with love and respect for all animals. Natural Spiritual Healing will enhance an animals quality of life and stimulate the bodies’ own healing mechanism. Animals are very aware of the healing energy and will often present the part of their body that is need. An holistic approach is used in order to deepen our understanding of the balance between animals, man and the world we live in. By seeing the body-mind-spirit as interconnected levels and honouring each as having an important role, every aspect of an animals being is able to benefit from healing.
We very much look forward to seeing you.

Margaret, Angela, Peter and their band of helpers within the Gloucestershire support group have just sent us a lovely cheque for £500.  A great deal of work and planning goes into raising this money by attending shows through the summer and we send grateful thanks.  Next stop Kemble near Tetbury Gloucestershire on the weekend of August 7th and 8th.  If you are in the area please go and see them.

New guidance on equestrian gates issued by The British Horse Society will help local authorities, volunteers and land managers ensure that paths are safer and more accessible for riders and carriage drivers.

The guidelines provide specifications and suggestions for gates, catches and other equestrian path furniture such as mounting blocks and anti-vehicle barriers.

BHS Director of Access, Safety and Welfare, Mark Weston, said: “The new guidance advises those responsible for gate installation and maintenances of equestrian path users’ needs. Often routes are rendered inaccessible by poor gates, and with so little safe off-road riding, it is imperative that equestrians are able to easily and safely access what is there.”

An additional guidance sheet provides an important checklist for correct gate installation and advice on self-closing gates which, if not correctly installed, can cause serious injury to horses.

The guidelines can be found at:

BINGO!

Posted by: emma

Last Friday evening 9th July  we all headed off to a bingo evening arranged by Julia’s wonderful  aunty Lynda.

Longford Memorial Hall in Neath donates proceeds from bingo evenings to different charities every week and they very kindly gave us the opportunity to have an event  for the trust.

Staff and  supporters had a  fun evening with lots of laughter and dabbing and in total a fantastic  £172.20 was raised!

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to  Lynda for all her hard work and for donating and sorting out all the prizes! Also thank you to  Julia’s grandma Rita for donating the raffles prize. Thank you as well  to the amazing team of volunteers who every week help different charities raise money.

Despite being full we are constantly receiving  calls for horses and ponies in need.  In the past week we have received different  cries for help regarding two pony colts, two  filly’s, two  horses and two Sections A’s  - some of the above  having been abandoned.  Thankfully we were able to find a lovely home for one colt and one  filly, and we have offered the Carmarthen police help on a short term basis with one of  the horse if needed.

Congratulations to Non, who achieved her goal and completed the Man v Horse marathon If you haven’t already sponsored Non there is still time. Just follow this link: http://www.everyclick.com/manvshorse

The Gloucestershire support group attended the Three Counties Show at Malvern and met some ‘already’ members and hopefully some would be members too.  Thank you to those who came to see Margaret, Angela and their helpers at the show.  Next stop Cirencester Country Fayre on the weekend of 3rd and 4th of July.

There are no words to describe how overwhelmed I am after our open day. We raised £2083.69!

The support from visitors, neighbours, friends, family and volunteers was amazing. Our two staff worked incredibly hard, Julia especially went far beyond the call of duty giving up her days off and working late in to the evenings with me to get everything ready. I also want to thank the community project helpers Jeff, Phil, Nathen and Guy, who did a huge amount to help us get the farm ready for the day and also on the day. I also want to thank everyone who came and gave donations over and above taking part in the day.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make it such a success -  we could not have done it without you!
