Our Horses, Donkeys and Ponys for Sponsorship

Dobby & Fleur

Dobby and Fleur arrived together and have stayed side by side ever since. Where one goes, the other follows — their bond gives them confidence as they begin their new chapter.

Dobby is calm and friendly despite being completely unhandled.
Fleur is a gentle bay girl who will take food and enjoys a scratch once she feels safe.

Both have a long road ahead. Unhandled equines — especially mules — need careful, patient, force-free training to build trust and prepare for future Guardian homes.

By sponsoring Dobby & Fleur together, you help fund their feed, veterinary care and the steady rehabilitation they need to thrive.

Hagrid

Hagrid may be small, but he arrived carrying a big sense of responsibility. As a stallion living exposed on the hillside, he was defensive and wary. Recently he has started taking treats from us and is becoming more comfortable with human presence. He is undergoing careful management and behavioural assessment. As an entire male, his training must be thoughtful and consistent to ensure future safety and welfare. Sponsoring Hagrid helps fund his management, training and ongoing veterinary oversight as we work towards a secure, settled future for him.

Sponsoring our rescues helps provide vital funds to care for up to 30 horses and ponies on our farm. Please note that while we place ponies on our sponsorship scheme because they are likely to stay at the Trust for some time, if they have a the chance of a loving home, then they will be rehomed.

Hedwig

Hedwig is one of the smallest mules and one of the most sensitive. At rescue, she had been separated and appeared deeply stressed. When the moment came, she loaded quietly — almost as if she understood help had arrived. Once reunited with Hagrid, her relief was clear. She is gradually becoming more curious about humans, but every step forward must be on her terms. Sponsoring Hedwig supports her gentle confidence-building work and ensures she continues to feel secure as she learns that people can be trusted.

Hermione

Hermione arrived with severely overgrown, twisted hooves that required urgent farriery attention. Years without handling have left her deeply suspicious of people. She watches from a distance, assessing everything. She is intelligent, thoughtful and very aware of her surroundings — true to her name. But trust must be earned slowly and carefully. With mules especially, rushing simply doesn’t work. Every interaction must be calm, consistent and kind. Hermione has a long road ahead, but with patient, force-free training she is already beginning to observe rather than flee. Sponsoring Hermione helps fund her ongoing care, veterinary monitoring and the steady, skilled handling she needs to hopefully one day find a Guardian home.

Ron

He is playful, inquisitive and often the first to investigate anything new — sometimes including water buckets (which he seems to believe are optional upright features). Like all the mules, he is unhandled and needs structured, careful introduction to human contact. His playfulness is endearing, but it must be guided safely and positively. Sponsoring Ron supports his behavioural rehabilitation — the careful groundwork that will allow his cheeky personality to shine without putting himself or others at risk.

Myrtle

Myrtle is our beautiful ginger girl, warm in colour and increasingly warm in confidence. She will come over for food and occasionally accepts a gentle scratch. Food is high on her priority list — and she’s not shy about being competitive over it. That’s perfectly natural herd behaviour, but it requires careful management during training. With calm, consistent work she is learning that humans bring good things without pressure. Sponsoring Myrtle helps fund the time, feed, bedding and training input she needs to continue building trust.

Harry

Harry was the first off the lorry when he arrived — bold, curious and ready to see what this new chapter might bring. He is one of the more confident mules and will happily come over for treats. That confidence is a gift, but he is still entirely unhandled. Confidence doesn’t mean trained, and his strength and intelligence mean he must be guided with consistency and skill. With time and structured positive reinforcement, Harry could become a wonderful companion in the right experienced home. Sponsoring Harry helps us provide the training sessions and experienced handlers needed to channel that bravery into safe, reliable behaviour.

Misty and Caesar

donkeys are sweet boys who came in to the Trust with his companion together in 2021. They belonged to someone who could no longer meet their needs. When we collected them their feet were overdue a trim, they had seedy toe, were suffering with a lice infestation causing hair loss and scabs. Caesar  was suffering with an eye condition causing them to be sore, needing an operation. He has gained some trust but is violently fearful of the vet. Misty is a confident donkey and enjoys attention.

Maggie

She was found as a very young orphan foal being attacked by other ponies on a South Wales mountain in April 2021. She was given a plasma transfusion, special glue on shoes to correct weak tendons and 24 hour care. Owing to her traumatic start, Maggie has some behaviour issues and is not happy to meet new people, due to this she is a permanent resident and carefully managed by the staff she has known since she came into our care. She has behaviourists and vets involved in her ongoing care.

Linus

Linus is a handsome traditional cob gelding. He arrived at Lluest in January 2012 along with 5 others. They had been fly grazing in the South Wales area. Linus has a fantastic temperament which is why he has the important job of assisting with educational days and programs. He also helps new rescues settle in, shows them the ropes and gives confidence to newly backed ponies. Linus enjoys meeting new friends, he is often the first to welcome wheelchair users as he isn’t afraid of the chairs.

Pudding

Sponsor Pudding and help keep this little legend living her best life!

At 25 years old, Pudding is one of the oldest residents at Lluest, but she still enjoys a good trot around the field—especially if there’s food involved! She’s been in Lluest’s care for 14 years after her previous owner could no longer care for her. Despite having dwarfism and Cushing’s, Pudding is a happy Miniature Shetland who loves the quiet life with her best friends, Silas and Darcy. She even helps with Equine Facilitated Learning sessions and enjoys plenty of love, especially from the children who are her absolute favourite.

Your sponsorship ensures Pudding stays safe, loved, and cosy for the rest of her days.

Darcy

Sponsor Darcy and help keep this sweet mare comfortable and well cared for! Darcy is one of the kindest mares at Lluest, enjoying time with her best friends, Pudding and Silas. She’s a bit shy but loves being groomed. Due to her age, Darcy has fewer teeth and needs special meals, plus she has Cushing’s, which makes her vulnerable to the cold and wet. That’s why she’s always wrapped up warm in cosy rugs through the cold months.

Your sponsorship ensures Darcy gets the care she needs to stay happy and healthy.

Silas

Sponsor Silas and help this cheeky boy live his best life!

Silas has been in Lluest’s care for 9 years, after his elderly owner could no longer look after him and his friend Junior. Despite living with Cushing’s and cancer, Silas is still a happy, lively Miniature Shetland who loves to show off for his girlfriends, Pudding and Darcy. Though he’s mostly sweet, Silas has a habit of breaking the rules and sneaking off for some extra grass whenever he can!

Your sponsorship ensures Silas and his friends stay safe, loved, and cared for. Thank you for being part of his story!
