The Lluest Horse and Pony Trust is a small charity running a rescue centre for horses, ponies and donkeys at a 40-acre farm, nestling among the Black Mountains in the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside. It particularly covers the Swansea and Llanelli areas, which are some on the worst in the UK for finding stray horses. The aim is always to restore the animals to full health and find them a loving foster home, but if that is not possible, they are assured of a safe home for the rest of their natural lives.
Our Aims To rescue and rehabilitate where possible as many horses, ponies, foals and donkeys, within the limits of our funds and spaces. To improve conditions at sales. To campaign for laws controlling indiscriminate breeding. To make the public at large aware of the cruelty going on around them. Through the Trust, to educate the public in the proper care and management of horses and ponies. To make available the reformed and healed rescued ponies to socially deprived and handicapped children, or to make them available to a permanent loan home through a closely supervised fostering scheme.
A few "neys" from one of our horses My name is Min and I am blind. I came to Lluest when I was four. For several years I had a companion called Val to follow around. Val was found in a quarry with her foal. They had no food and she was starving. She is getting old now and needs to go in a stable at night. Next I was with Mair, who was found wandering in Swansea with head injuries probably caused by being caught in the railings. Mair is now rehomed. After that I was with Magic who is sway backed and cannot be ridden. Now I am in with friends of all shapes and sizes so I have lots of company and we have great fun together.
I have 'seen' many ponies arrive here frightened and suffering, but after a while they learn to feel safe and to enjoy life again. If you would like to hear some of their stories please click on the "Pony Tales" button. I really need all the special friends I can get, so if you would like to help me, or one of my friends, you can find out all about our adoption scheme by clicking on the "Ponies to Adopt" button. There are lots of other ways you can help the horses and ponies already here and others suffering in silence who we can help in future. To find out lots of ways to be a real part of our Rescue Team please click on the "Ways to Help" button. We are a very small charity, with only two people employed, and everything else done by volunteers - so every bit of help is important to us.
Our motto remains unchanged "Every Penny Possible for the Ponies"
Please will you help us and the ponies and donate whatever you can to keep this little charity and Ginny's dream, alive.
